What happened after the gallbladder removal?


In Chinese medicine, the Gallbladder
is a Yang organ and the Liver is its Yin organ partner and they work together,
supporting and balancing each other. The Gallbladder stores and excretes bile,
governs decision making and planning, controls the sinews and effects dreams. On
a deeper emotional level, the Gallbladder is responsible for passion for life,
inspiration, action and assertiveness. When digestion is smooth, so is the
Liver Qi. The Gallbladder also needs the Liver Qi to be able to release its
bile smoothly. If this relationship is impaired, it can adversely affect
digestion and cause problems like vomiting, regurgitation, belching and
hiccups, which are all symptoms of liver Qi stagnation. It is common in the
modern age to see many patients who have had their Gallbladders removed because
of gall stones and other problems. The consequence of losing gall bladder- a
very yang organ is weight gain, hypothyroidism, depression, feeling cold and fatigue
as the body losing fire or yang to keep up the metabolism.

So, why do so many people have
problems with their Gallbladders? I believe that stress and inappropriate
eating habit are two main reasons. If you are experiencing unusual levels of
stress because of things going on in your life (a traumatic event, death, an
illness, breakup of a relationship), or stress at work, and/or are eating badly
(lots of greasy, fatty, rich or spicy foods), then eventually, the
Liver/Gallbladder will become impaired and can cause an excess of anger which
can manifest in symptoms like red face & eyes, irritability, angry
outbursts, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), and migraines. These are symptoms of
Liver Fire (excess heat in the Liver).

Chronic Pain Go Hands in Hands with Depression

Pain, especially chronic pain, is an emotional condition as well as a physical sensation. It is a complex experience that affects thought, mood, and behavior and can lead to isolation, immobility, and drug dependence. In those ways, it resembles depression, and the relationship is intimate. Pain is depressing, and depression causes and intensifies pain. People with chronic pain have three times the average risk of developing psychiatric symptoms — usually mood or anxiety disorders — and depressed patients have three times the average risk of developing chronic pain. Almost every drug used in psychiatry can also serve as a pain medication. The most versatile of all psychiatric drugs, the antidepressants have an analgesic effect that may be at least partly independent of their effect on depression since it seems to occur at a lower dose. The two major types of antidepressants, tricyclics and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), may have different roles in the treatment of pain. Amitriptyline (Elavil), a tricyclic, is one of the antidepressants most often recommended as an analgesic, partly because its sedative qualities can be helpful for people in pain. SSRIs such as fluoxetine (Prozac) and sertraline (Zoloft) may not be quite so effective as pain relievers, but their side effects are usually better tolerated, and they are less risky than tricyclic drugs. The association of depression with migraine headaches, which affect more than 10% of Americans, is especially close. One study found that over a two-year period, a person with a history of major depression was three times more likely than average to have a first migraine attack, and a person with a history of migraine was five times more likely than average to have a first episode of depression. Very often, when low energy, insomnia, and hopelessness resulting from depression and anxiety perpetuate and aggravate physical pain, it becomes almost impossible to tell which came first or where one leaves off and the other begins.

Here are some steps you can take to help optimize brain health and sharpen your memory: Eat balanced meal Studies that focus on food and memory show that the more produce you eat, the better. One 25-year Harvard Medical School study of more than 13,000 women showed that the participants who ate relatively high amounts of vegetables over the years had less age-related decline in memory. Cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, Brussels sprouts and cabbage) and leafy green vegetables had the biggest effect on helping women retain their memory during the course of the study. In another study, the phytochemicals, anthocyanin (found in berries of all colors and cherries) and quercetin (found in onions, kale and apples), actually reversed some of the age-related memory deficits in laboratory animals. Phosphatidylserine, found naturally in soy, beef, and seafood (primarily oysters) is thought to help promote cell-to-cell communication in the brain as part of the cell membrane. In addition to memory conditions, phosphatidylserine is also being studied for neurodegenerative conditions such as Parkinson’s disease.
